Introduction to Digital Literacy at UCPH
All bachelor students across UCPH are required to acquire broad basic knowledge of key concepts in digitalisation.
They must be able to reflect on digitalisation and use digital tools and methods that they encounter in their studies.
The students will develop their fundamental digital competences further during their Master’s degree programmes to ensure that UCPH’s academically well-qualified graduates can match the digitised labour market.
To this end, a ‘UCPH model for Digital Literacy and digital competences’ has been developed.
UCPH model and learning resources
The UCPH model gathers and describes five topics of relevance to all students, regardless of their field of study. The model has been chosen as a method for ensuring a minimum level of digital understanding. The need for immersion in the individual topics will depend on the subject in question.
This Absalon room contains a number of generic learning resources for Digital Literacy developed within each of the five topics. The use of these resources is not compulsory, but an offer for lecturers and course coordinators.
To support the integration of the model, it also contains a set of associated ‘literacy questions’ aimed at strengthening awareness of key dimensions of digital literacy and providing inspiration for discussions in the teaching. The literacy questions can serve as a guide – can the students answer them or reflect on them in a meaningful way? The literacy questions are found under the introduction to each topic.
The purpose of the learning resources in this course room is to ensure a general basic level of digital literacy for students across degree programmes. The learning resources are also intended to inspire students to develop competences within the topics of the model, and refer to additional resources that can support a more in-depth understanding or competence.
The UCPH model for students’ digital literacy and competences has been developed by an interdisciplinary working group consisting of experts from across the University as part of the strategy 2023 programme entitled Joint goals at UCPH for digitalisation of degree programmes.
The learning resources in this course room are primarily newly developed materials produced by course directors appointed and supported by UCPH in collaboration with UCPH’s Center for Online & Blended Learning.

Course room and materials
The five topics in the UCPH model each corresponds to a topic in the Absalon course room. A number of short lessons are always available under each topic, and there are often also longer courses. The very short lessons are a general introduction to key concepts. The course varies in terms of level and duration, but it starts at a basic level and then proceeds with a more in-depth presentation of topics in the UCPH model.
This course room contains materials which are not subject specific and which can be used by all lecturers at UCPH. It is up to the individual lecturer/course manager to assess the relevance of the materials in relation to their own academic targets. The resources can be used as they are presented or be adjusted in the lecturer’s own course room. The materials can be used and combined as required – the lessons are not interdependent.
From January 2023, all lecturers across UCPH will have access to the learning resources for Digital Literacy. This means that everyone who will potentially be teaching digital literacy at some point will have access to the shared resources in the relevant area. Bachelor students are also given access to the material (in a separate course room) so that those who come across the topics in the UCPH model in other ways can use the learning resources for independent study and inspiration.
The learning resources will be ready on an ongoing basis and are expected to be completed by August 2023.
Digital literacy and digital definitions
At UCPH, a reference work has been compiled containing key concepts within digitalisation at the university.
The purpose is to promote and strengthen the dialogue about digitalisation by providing easy access to the most commonly used definitions.
You can find the digital definitions here.
