8 Crucial Do's And Don'ts Of Home Decorating – Umubyeyi magazine

When it comes to decorating your home, there are some things that can work in your favour and some things that can go massively against the way the interior of your property ends up turning out. Here at We Buy Any House, we have compiled our do’s and don'ts's of home decorating.

Don’t- Create Rooms That Are Themed:

Perhaps one of the biggest décor faux pas you could make is choosing to have a room that is heavily themed. Although we all may have an era in which we love the fashion, style and interior design, it can be a mistake to turn to this for inspiration. Using a specific era to create a contextual interior design style can sometimes be a financial waste too, especially if you are looking to sell your home. Having something too niche in your home can be a turn off for prospective buyers, or even for yourself as if you go off the theme you have chosen, you will have to renovate the space.

Do- Hang Your Curtains High and Wide:

If you’re going to have curtains in your windows, then a great tip is to hang them high and wide in your home. This can make all the difference when it comes to dimensions to make your home look more spacious. It’s a good idea to hang your curtains as far up and as far wide as possible, to make your room seem larger.

Don’t- Add Too Much Clutter to the Space:

Although we think that adding lots of décors to our homes may make the space seem homely, it can actually make your home look overly cluttered and visually busy. Hoarding memorabilia, excessive family photos or any other collectables can take away from the amount of space you have in your home. Minimalism is the new craze for interior designers, so it’s a good idea to remove any clutter you have in the home.

Do- Use Different Textures Around the Home:

Using various textures around the home is a great way to add some style to your interior design style. By combining soft, fluffy, heavy and light textures, you can make your interior design a lot more interesting to look at.

Don’t- Choose One Colour:

You may think you are making your life easier by choosing one colour scheme to have in your home, however, this may look a little too repetitive and cause the space to look smaller.

Do- Create a Mood board:

Creating a mood board is a great way to visualise how you want a space to look before you actually commit to decorating it and designing it. By making a mood board, you can see what the ‘vibe’ is for each room, and realistically how long it will take to come together.
