Activity

In the field of Humanitarian Action a well know part of management activities will be to setup plans to solve the direct short term needs in combination with a focus as well on the long term effects of these plans. For this field this has been worked out under the umbrella of Project Cycle management and a lot of knowledge is available fort his on the Internet. See for example the work of the EU: https://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/aid-delivery-methods-project-cycle-management-guidelines-vol-1_en Links to an external site..

It is good to start reading in the manual on this way of thinking. In a next step it becomes interesting to look at related sites of for example of ECHO http://ec.europa.eu/echo/ Links to an external site.. But there is much more on the WEB.

Introduction

Project management is a cyclical process with overlapping stages feeding back and forth in the course of project completion. The complex task of managing projects is frequently tackled with the aid of the project management cycle (PMC), which is also used as the basis for programs carried out by several non-profit organizations. It is a tool that help Humanitarian Aid workers in structuring their thinking on how to offer support in such a way and during the process to  monitor the work in progress and afterwards it offers the opportunity to evaluate the work done.

Reflection

In the context of management the project cycle management field is a combination of structuring the thinking of “What can be done”, “How the situation can be described” and “How the people in the situation can be involved in the plans of what to do”.

Helping question:  Please go back to the manual and try to find in the manual where you can find these three elements.
