How to import files manually into Nvivo

  1. Download the article files, eg as PDFs and save them locally on your computer.

  2. Click the tab “Import” on the grey navigation ribbon. Then click "Files", “PDFs”, and you can now find and select the articles.

Alternatively,

  1. In the Blue navigation menu on the left of the screen, click on “Data” then ”Files” . You can now drag-and-drop the files from the folder on your computer into NVivo.

When you import directly from your reference manager you get all the bibliographic information as well as the attached article, typically as a PDF. Importing files stored locally on your computer manually means bibliographic data is lost (unless it is embedded in the PDF of the article). Therefore you will need to create a classification sheet from scratch.
